MRI - Scan (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)

MRI can give such clear pictures of soft tissue structures near and around bones, it is usually the best choice for examination of the body's major joints, the spine for disc problems disease and especially ligament injuries of the knee.

MRI is widely used to diagnose sports-related injuries, as well as work-related disorders caused by repeated strain, vibration or forceful impact.

Using MRI images, physicians can locate and identify the cause of pain, swelling or bleeding in the tissues in and around the joints and bones. The images allow the physician to clearly see even very small tears and injuries to tendons, ligaments and muscles.

In addition, MRI images can give Doctors a clear picture of degenerative disorders such as arthritis, deterioration of joint surfaces, or a herniated disc.

The Mid Yorkshire Orthopaedic and Sports Injury Clinic can offer MRI scans from £ 330-00. Covering one region: either the lumbar spine, knee, shoulder, foot and ankle or neck.

If you are insured check with your providers if they cover the cost of MRI some will some wont.

Because MRI uses a powerful magnet in a fairly confined space it cannot be used in severe claustrophobia, there are some people who cannot have an MRI e.g. if you have a pacemaker or metal clips in the brain. Please discuss further with the Doctor at your consultation.

The Mid Yorkshire Ortho Sports Clinic has contracts with many private MRI providers across the district please contact us for more information.
